We work with photographers and videographers.

A photographer or videographer whose website makes images and video feel slow, small or hard to find has already lost the prospective client they needed to impress.

Photography and videography are pure portfolio businesses. The work is the argument. Every other element of the website, the about page, the services, the pricing, the contact form, exists to support the moment when a prospective client sees the work and decides this is the right person for them.

The problem most photography websites have is not the quality of the work. It is the presentation: images that load slowly, galleries that are hard to navigate, portfolio sections buried behind service descriptions or, most commonly, a website built for SEO rather than for the impression the work actually makes.

We work with commercial and creative photographers and videographers across Surrey to build websites where the work is the centrepiece and the rest of the site earns the enquiry.

Common problems

Where photographer and videographer websites fall short.

01

Galleries are slow or hard to navigate.

A photography website with a gallery that takes three seconds to load per image or requires a plugin to view full-screen is failing at the most basic level. Fast image delivery, clean presentation and intuitive navigation are non-negotiable for a photographer's site.

02

The specialisms are not clear.

A photographer who lists every type of photography they have ever done, from weddings to food to headshots to landscape, gives a prospective commercial client no clear signal about whether this photographer is right for them. Specificity, at least in the way the website is structured and led, attracts the right briefs.

03

No visible pricing or process guidance.

Commercial clients in particular want to understand the process and have a rough sense of investment before they make contact. A website with no pricing guidance, no sense of how a shoot runs and no indication of what is included forces a conversation that many prospective clients will not bother starting.

Why it matters

“The photographer whose website makes the work feel as good as it is wins the brief over someone technically equivalent whose website undersells them.”

“I had been putting off rebuilding my website for two years because I was not sure what to do with it. After working with Makeproper, the site went from something I was vaguely embarrassed about to something I am genuinely proud to send to prospective clients. The quality of commercial enquiries has been noticeably better since.”

FAQ

Photographer and videographer websites, answered.

The questions photographers and videographers ask us most often, before they commission a site.

What should a photographer's website include?

Galleries that load fast and present work properly (not endless scrolling thumbnails), separate sections for each specialism you actively want enquiries on (weddings, commercial, food, portraits, brand), an honest 'about' page that explains how you work, an enquiry route that does not require a 30-field form to ask about availability, indicative pricing or pricing structure, and recent client testimonials that sound like real clients.

How long does a photographer's website take to build?

Most photographer sites launch within 4 to 6 weeks of kick-off. The biggest delay is usually image curation: deciding which 80 photos go on the site rather than which 800. We help with the curation if useful because what to leave out matters more than what to include.

How do you handle galleries and large image files?

We build the site to serve images at the right size for the device looking at them, with proper compression that does not degrade quality but does make the site fast. Galleries lazy-load, full-screen views work cleanly, and the site loads quickly on mobile data. Slow gallery sites cost photographers enquiries every day.

Should we sell prints or products through the site?

If prints, books or products are a meaningful revenue line for you, yes, with a proper ecommerce setup. For most working photographers the website is a portfolio and enquiry generator first, with print shops as a secondary feature. We can add a print sales section without compromising the portfolio experience if both matter.

How do we rank for 'photographer in my area'?

Specialism-specific local SEO is built in: dedicated pages for each photography type by location ('wedding photographer Surrey', 'commercial photographer London'), schema markup that flags you correctly, Google Business Profile alignment, and on-page content that uses the actual phrases couples and clients search with. Realistic timeline for meaningful movement is 3 to 6 months.
